Out of the Storm..The Ranter is Born
March 25, 2008
Hi, my name is Don and I go by “D”. I’ve been a Rockies fan since 1993 and up until now attend about 4 or 5 games a year.
I plan to increase that substancially, funds and time permitting.
I started this blog because I felt there was a serious lack of recognition and respect for the Rockies and their incredible World Series run last year.
That pissed me off. Something needed to be done.
I figured blogging would the best way that I could bring attention to the Rockies and their great fan base. I’ll do that by taking a lot of pictures and detailing different aspects of the games I attend in my own special way.
Believe me folks, I’m not like other bloggers. I have no set boundaries. Blogging is uncharted territory and I plan to make a path for myself.
I’m not the guy who’s gonna overwhelm you with stats. I’m all about detailing the baseball experience. Nobody’s paying me to blog here so you can bet I’ll always give it to you straight.
So in order start this MLBLog off right I attended my first Rockies spring training in Tucson this year. I went down there to support the Rockies and see what all the fuss was about.
It was a short three day trip and I went by myself because the group of guys I was heading down to Tucson with all backed out for one reason or another.
I spent two days wandering around Hi-Corbett talking to Ushers and minor league players. I was trying to learn all that I could so next spring training I would know exactly how the system works.
Here’s a shot of Franklin Morales in the practice fields behind the stadium.
Here’s the baseball Franklin autographed for me.
I attended two games while in Tucson both Rockies home games.
I love it down here. Baseball is in the air and that air is nice and warm. It’s a nice break from the Colorado cold.
Today I was shooting some video of Matt Holliday when he hit a foul ball off of the first base line and I had no idea that it was headed right for me.
The ball missed me by a few feet.
What’s worse is I totally missed snagg’n that ball….Not a good start.
My very first autograph ever was Omar Quintanilla in 2006. Today was Autograph day at Hi Corbett field and I was able to get Ryan Speier and Micah Bowie to autograph my baseball.
Nice guys
Here’s my autographed baseball.
Here’s a picture of Todd Helton with Tulo in the background. Ok the picture sucks but it shows you how close I was. The top of the Rockies dugout was just below this fence.
Here’s video of the ballpark and stands including yours truly.
Here’s video of my favorite Rockie Todd Helton.
I can’t wait to come back here next year, I’ll be much better prepared.
Thanks for stopping by the Rant and reading my first entry.
I’m “D” The Rockpile Ranter and you may not know me…But you will.
