Giants vs Rockies Game 2…Justice

At this point Timmy doesn’t know it but today would be the shortest start of his career. :)

I was more than ready for some serious batting practice today. I was shutout on opening day and that puts me behind of my one ball a game average. Just when batting practice was starting to get roll’n, mother nature let loose and put an abrupt halt to all fun.

The rain didn’t last long, but it lasted long enough that the tarp was brought out. Zip for catching baseballs this regular season so far, now I’m behind and playing catch-up and that’s no fun.

Here’s a few pre-game pictures. Props to Amy for helping me get Cuddy’s autograph on my ticket today. I was damn close to getting Helton but as I”ve mentioned before I’m an anti-magnet when it comes to Helton for some reason.

I swear I’ve gotten Helton’s autograph only 4 times in 6 years. That might seem like a lot but I go to a lot of games.

Gutherie’s first Coors Field start. Think he was a bit nervous?

Cargo drove had two triples and drove in four runs. Nice to see Cargo finally get some hits.

Check out Dan in this picture, he’s all excited and Robert’s all mellow.

Rockies set a record tonight for most runs and hits without a home run.

Check out the Todd Helton broken bat series.

Partial bat flying.

So long Timmy.

This game was exactly what I needed after that lesson by Barry Zito on Monday.

Rockies even up the series with a football score of 17-8.

I’m “D” The Ranter and the Rockies have my full attention. Show me some more of that!

 Go Rockies…”D”

Rockies Opening Day at Coors Field

Giants vs Rockies

As it has for the last couple of seasons Opening Day starts off with breakfast at the 2oth Street Cafe with a small group of the Rantics.

Left to Right are Mike the Rox Addict, Gary X, Alannah X, Rick, Amy, Drugless Douglas and Jersey Geoff.

The only plan this morning was to try to get Dante Bichette’s autograph before heading into Coors Field for the first batting practice of the season.

Last time I saw Dante he was a bald, not today. Dante was signing autographs and promoting Maxx HD sunglasses.

Dante was cool as a former Bomber should be and was signing multiple items for everyone.

Dante signed a game rubbed baseball for me.

Maybe someday I’ll run into Larry Walker and Andres Gallaraga and I’ll be able to finish up my Blake Street Bomber autograph collection.

I didn’t know at the time but meeting Dante would be the highlight of this day.

Check out the Patio Ride…Yeah I’d rent it, but only if I run that sucker downhill :)

Lot’s of Rockies fans gett’n their drink on early on the rooftop.

Batting practice was a total bust. I’ve noticed at times when the Rockies hit really well during BP they hit well during the game. BP today was pitiful and I was hoping that wasn’t an indication of what the game was gonna be like. The pavillion pre-game was packed full of purple Rockies fans hoping to catch a souvenir.

Sorry folks, it’s not going to happen today. Your chances of getting beaned in the head by a stray foul ball were much better. Just ask the lady along the third base line celebrating her 69th birthday at Coors Field. She managed to snag a ball today, the one that cracked her skull.

That’s the first time I can remember seeing a fan hauled off from the field. Normally Paramedics would just carry them up the stairs.

I heard later that the elderly lady beaned in the head was recovering and was going to be ok. That’s cool,  a happy ending and a helluva story for her to tell the grandkids.

Unfortunately a trend I’m not liking is continuing from last year. The Rockies ended their BP early thus depriving their fans of the only half-hour they get to watch their team take swings.C’mon Rockies, we wait in line in the hot sun so we can come inside and watch you take swings.

We’re allowed a measly half-hour to do this and you end practice 10-15 minutes early?

Listen, I’m not telling the Rockies what to do, I’m just giving them some insight into how fans think.

Graphmaster Gary X hold’n down the front row as per usual.

Mike the Rox Addict and Amy from “The Take from Blake”.

As an old buddy of mine used to say…That’s a crap-ton of balloons.

Matt Belisle giving us a wave.

The ceremonial first pitch times three.

Tulo was presented his Silver Slugger and Gold Glove award from 2011.

Here are the game pictures I took.

First pitch of the game.

Sandoval homers and the Giants are up by 2 in the first inning.

Helton third out toss-up.

Tulo milliseconds before his first hit.

Chacin starting to crumble.

Amy and Jersey Geoff chill’n.

My favorite picture of the day and one of the hardest to get. Cargo breaking his bat with the ball in the picture.

Zito was straight up money today and the Giants embarrass the Rockies on their Home Opener 7-0.

After the beating was over Mike, Gary X, Alannah and I headed over to where the post-game show is broadcast. We said we would do the “Bring Back Helmer” chant and we did.

Here’s the first video. You can see us in the background.

In this video you can hear us chanting “Bring Back Helmer” in the background as the Cowboy is talking.

Here is where I walk up to the wall(you can see my hat) and told them:

“I supported you and you let Helmer go for no good reason, I supported you Root Sports. You ain’t about the fan, You aint about the fan.”

After I finished the cops that were standing there waved me on.

The best video of all was Allannah X. She was able to get close up and got out a “Bring Back Helmer. Nice job Alannah!

We did what we could for Tom Helmer. He’s a great guy and he deserved folks standing up for him for the gutless way Poot Warts let him go.

Hindsight being 20/20, a big ole’ sign would have done wonders :)

Let me state for the record, I like all of the rest of the broadcasters in the Poot Warts line-up although I haven’t watched Joel much as I’m boycotting the Post-Game going forward.

The protest had absolutely nothing to do with any of you, it was a protest against your employer. We were standing up and making a statement for a friend who was wronged by a company that claims to be about “The Fan”, but in reality doesn’t give a shit about “The Fan”, simple as that.

I’m “D” The Ranter and let me reiterate, meeting Dante Bichette was the highlight of this day, but it’s nice to know Rockies fans are taking Purple Mondays seriously :)

Go Rockies…You’re better than this…”D”

Two Games, One Day…That’s the Way

3-16-12

This day started out way too early. Although ballons crossing the road in front of you on your drive to the ballpark is pretty damn cool.

I love the desert.

Last night I managed to get a solid 7 hours sleep and I needed it becasue I hadn’t slept at all from the previous days road trip.

Mike and I had two games  on the agenda today.

The first one was the A’s vs Rangers at Surprise Stadium.

This is a cool little stadium with a really neat backfield area set up just for fans. We saw players walking all over  and they were stopping and taking time to chat with the fans.

For me this is enemy territory but it was cool seeing how the other side rolls. The Rockies could take a few notes from these fellas on how to interact with fans who drive a long way to see them.

We thought we arrived early but it turns out we had already missed batting practice.

We walked the back fields a bit then headed inside to see what this place was like.

No ballpark is complete without it’s merry-go-round.

Today was much hotter than this mountain boy is used to and by the start of the game I was close to cooked. That’s not exactly how you want to start a two game day.

While cruising the outfield area I stumbled across the Budweiser Home Run Party deck.

In reality it wasn’t much of a party and no home runs were hit inside, but for a small fee I upgraded my ticked and I enjoyed the rest of the game shaded with all I could eat :)

That worked out perfectly beacause at this point my well cooked ass was hot and hungry.

Here’s a few game pics. You might remember this guy Rockies fans.

Yorvit Torealba

Here’s Seth Smith at bat with Torealba catching.

A’s win this game 11-7.

As soon as this game ended we quickly headed out to the Peoria Sports Complex, home of the Mariners and the Padres.

We met up with Rantic Amy to watch the Mariners vs the Giants.

As soon as we entered we headed over to the Giants dugout for position so we could try and score a few autographs as today was a  total bust for batting practice.

I snagged nine baseballs yesterday at Salt River Fields so getting shutout today sucked.

Here’s a few game pictures.

Rox Addict and Amy on the berm.

Giants get the win over the Mariners 7-5.

By the time we got back to the campsite I was done.Peoria’s a cool stadium but it’s no Salt River Fields.

I”m “D” The Ranter and the Spring Training Road Trip continues…

8/3/10              Giants vs Rockies Game One

IMG_5115.JPGGiant Todd and I had been looking forward to this game for a long time. It’s not often he and I get to attend a game together and we were ready to have a good time and enjoy some live baseball.

Jersey Geoff got back with me and sent those pictures of his autographed Ubaldo Jiminez All-Star Jersey. This jersey is beyond sweet.

Geoff uses washable marker on his jerseys so he can sport ‘em at home games.

IMG_3436.JPG     Batting practice for me was a bust but Todd managed to snag one. He gave it to a kid.

Bases loaded, this was Helton’s chance for a huge comeback grand slam.bases loaded 8-3-10.jpgStrike three. It seemed the whole game was full of blown opportunities and the Coors Field magic I was feeling turned out to be just gas. Helton Strike three 8-3-10.jpg

I’m not sure what this lady was smiling about but I assure you I wasn’t smiling as I exited Coors Field.smiling 8-3-10.jpg

On a cool note Douglas D snagg’d a third out toss up from Carlos Gonzalez.

Douglas D 8-3-10.jpgAround the 8th inning a lady named Kim(I think) from Canada walked by, tapped me on the shoulder and asked if she could take a picture of my jersey.

I believe her reason for wanting a picture of my jersey was something to do with a Rockpile group in Canada that she’s a member of…If I’m wrong Kim leave me a comment.

I mentioned that I too grew up in Canada so Kim decided to join Giant Todd and I for a chat.

                                                        Very nice lady.

IMG_5101.JPG

Towards the end I just wanted the Rockies to score one run to avoid the shutout. But they didn’t.

Giant Todd and his boys owned Coors Field from start to finish.

Giants vs Rockies Game 2IMG_2017.JPG Ever heard of the Long Haul Bombers?..I hadn’t, these dudes play softball and are on a nation wide Stadium tour knocking the covers off softballs.

The Bombers use aluminum bats and the softballs had no problem reaching the concourse. I think there were six batters and they each were allowed to hit 15 softballs.

I’m telling you if felt like the Home Run Derby(in my mind).

The damn softballs were crashing all around me yet I remained empty-handed. I watched Robert snag one of the first softballs hit out to left field. His spot of choice was the last row of the pavilion…Good choice.IMG_2181.JPG No worries, I managed to snag a ball today during BP. I should have been sporting several more but two I misjudged and one landed right in my glove and bounced out…totally my bad.

I watched Tulo crush a ball about ten feet to my right and I was stuck because there was a family of four right blocking my access to it. As the ball neared I realized it was zeroing in for the father of the family standing beside me.

He was totally clueless so I screamed “Heads up dude”, it scared the sh*t out of him and at the last second he raised his glove up to his head and protected his face. He was stunned and stood there for a few minutes repeating out loud “That almost hit me”.

In all honesty I was waiting for a “thank you” from either him or his wife but it didn’t happen.

Your welcome anyway dude. Enjoy your life with an undamaged face courtesy of the Ranter.IMG_2183.JPG

IMG_2372.JPG                                                  He ain’t getting by Todd Helton, not tonight.
IMG_2379.JPGNot my best shot of the evening but here’s Ian Stewart hitting a three run rocket in the sixth tying the game and spuring a seven-run inning. That single play totally shifted the momentum of the game in our favor.

IMG_2385.JPG                                                            Rounding first base.
IMG_2386.JPGIn the sixth inning with two out, Todd Helton blasted a two out homer to right field about twenty feet from where I was sitting. Man that was fun. So much fun I must have misplaced my voice.IMG_2258.JPG     When I woke up this morning it was gone along with my fear of getting swept.

                                                                           Ha..Ha.

The Rockies punish the Giants tonight 14-11 in front of 47,178 and I was able to laugh back hard at my friend Todd (the guy I have the season long Giants bet with), because this win was a come from behind win and those just mean more when you’re bragging up your team.

Easily one of the hottest and best Rockies games I’ve been to all year. Props to my friend for helping out a guy when he really needed some shade today.Green Floppy Hat.JPG

                                           GIANTS VS ROCKIES GAME 1

IMG_2017.JPGToday game was the official debut of the “New Ranter Hat”If you follow this blog you know that the Rockies gave away 15,000 floppy hats similar to mine a few weeks back.

No worries it was time to change things up a little bit.

My friend Pete and I arrived at the Rockpile gate and were one of the first few through the gates.

We were to meet Scott and Stuart inside after batting practice. The Rockies decided not to take advantage of the beautiful weather and let the Giants take over the field.

In hindsight, they Rockies probably should have taken the opportunity and “Been on the Green”.

Today I ran into Kylie the infamous “Blake Street Blogger. I knew she would be attending this game and it wasn’t hard to spot her right up front in the Pavilion.

IMG_1901.JPG          It was obvious that she was excited to be at Coors Field because she was beaming.
IMG_1899.JPG              Welcome to Colorado Kylie, and your new home away from home Coors Field :)

I knew Joy (aka LUVMYROX) would be at this game too. I spotted her to my left taking pictures.

Below is the picture Joy took of me taking a picture her taking a picture of me. Thanks Joy :)

Joys pic of me 2.jpg                  Here’s a shot of Pete in the outfield. This was Pete’s first batting practice.

IMG_1908.JPGThere were a decent amount of BP homers hit into the pavilion today. One of the Giants peppered the pavilion with 5 or 6 homers in one at bat.

I managed to snag one ball today. It hit the bleachers in between a group of people and rolled down three rows right to me.

It was a perfect baseball and it was Kylie’s.

I ran into Geoff, he had the good seats today and he was showing off his snag of the day.

A Shea Stadium ball. You never know what’s going to land in your glove in BP,…. I like that.
IMG_1929.JPG                          Here’s a shot of Timmy. This dude is tiny yet still rocks it…amazing.

IMG_2101.JPG                          This guy asked if he could take our picture. I said sure if I could take his.

IMG_2024.JPG                  Aaron Cook on the mound. Not one of Cookies best performances tonight.IMG_2025.JPG

By the end of the first inning Cook had given up three runs.

Cook’s shoulder started to hurt and Tracy pulled him after walking Nate Schierholtz to open the fourth.

IMG_2111.JPG                                 Giants tower over the Rockies with a final score of 6-3.

Props to Seth Smith for his 10th homer of the season in the 8th.

This loss hurt, I can hear my friend Todd (the guy have the Rockies/Giants season long bet with) in the distance. He is laughing at me and he sounds like Nelson from the Simpsons.

Rockies I can’t have that. I need a win tonight and so do you.

I have the best readers and I appreciate every one of you…DGreen Floppy Hat.JPG
