Nuggets vs Hornets
Pepsi Center 6pm
Our first Nuggets game of the season. Wasn’t sure what to expect.
Jersey Geoff and his family must have been think’n the same thing as my family because we ran into him up in the thin-air section (300 section). This was their first Nuggets game of the season as well.
Gold Medalist Missy Franklin was at the game. (Denver resident but not Colorado native).
Pre-Game the Nuggets recognized Andre Iguodala for helping Team USA win the Olympic gold medal. Andre scored 23 points, 6 assists and had 2 rebounds tonight!
Nuggets also recognized center Timofey Mozgov for winning a bronze medal while playing for his native Russia.
The face of the Nuggets have changed so I’ll hit you with some player names.
Kenneth Faried..14 points and 12 rebounds tonight.
Nuggets 102..Hornets 84
.Nugget’s are now 8-6 on the season and the win tonight was their 4th in a row. I must say at first I didn’t like the new uniforms, but they’re starting to grow on me.
Love that Old Skool logo.
I’m “D” the Ranter…Doing my best to be a well-rounded sports blogger :)
RAPTORS VS NUGGETS
This was my first Nuggets game of the season and I couldn’t have picked a better time to see them play. The Nuggets return to Denver fresh off of a five game road trip in which they won all five. The first time in history the Nuggets have ever done that.
Plus I got to hear the Canadian National Anthem and I knew all the words.
For this game I sat behind the basket in Section 136. Not the best seats for taking pictures but the tickets were extremely cheap :)
Strength and Conditioning Coach Steve Hess’s hair finally out grew him. Now he’s sport’n a mohawk?
Raptors were dragg’n ass the first quarter. You could tell they were really missing their leading scorer Andrea Bargnani.
Rudy Fernandez was the man tonight with a season high 23 points.
Danilo Gallinari had 13 points in the game.
Arron Afflalo was back after missing two games but was shutout.
Andre Miller had 13 points and 12 assists and 6 rebounds.
Not sure what’s going on here? Sorry buddy those ain’t basketballs.
Even George Karl managed to get himself a technical foul tonight.
Former Denver Nugget Linus Kleiza got into a bit of a tiff with Harrington near the end of the game. It looked like Harrington got pissed when Kleiza put his hand in his face while under the basket. Some pleasantries were exchanged, Kleiza pushed Harrington. Both dudes received technicals and both kept talking smack after they returned to their bench.
Kleiza scored two points and was 1 for 7 for the night.
Toronto tried to make a fourth quarter comeback and got within 6 points but the Nuggets defense stepped up and the game ended with a final score of…
DENVER 96 the RAPTORS 81
You didn’t think you leave here with out a cheerleader pic did you?
Best shot of the game other than Andre Miller’s shot at halfcourt to beat the half-time buzzer..WOW!!
I’m “D” The Ranter… Whaddaya know…That’s six in a row.
HELL YEAH !
I so wanted to be there welcoming the players and wishing them good luck. My smiling face was doing just that the first game of spring training last season and look how far the Rockies went…I’m just say’n :)
The Hotstove.com has been sending out questions to Rockies Bloggers and they’ve been posting my responses along with several other Rockies Bloggers.
Here’s the question from Feb 24, 2010:
If free agent infielder Felipe Lopez can be had for a bargain price, should the Rockies consider bringing him in to give Clint Barmes some competition at second base?
The other question was from today and it was:
The Rockies have been notoriously slow starters in the past few seasons, often digging a deep hole for themselves in April. Is it the cold weather in Colorado, or something else that keeps the team from performing well early in the season?
Answering questions about the Rockies is fun in anticipation of the regular season but thank god for basketball, it fulfulls my need to watch live sports and take pictures in the baseball off-season and doesn’t break the bank(Thanks B).
In a month we’ll be watching the Rockies play the Mariners. I have several goals for those two special games.
You ask why is it a special game? Honestly I’m not sure but the ticket prices suggest something special so when I figure out exactly what it is that justifies the extremely high cost of tickets for these two games I’ll let you know. (The cheapest ticket is $25.00)
First I’d like to get Ken Griffey Jr’s autograph(Yeah I know who wouldn’t). It’s doubtful he’d sign for me dressed up in my Rockies gear but my wife Krista will be with me and that levels the playing field.
Second I’d like to catch a batting practice homer and/or possibly a game foul ball.
Third, I’d like to get Jason Giambi’s autograph. Yes I know I have all season to do that but I figure I’d get ‘er done early and that’s one less thing to do.
By the way if you’re attending this game and would like to trade your BERM tickets for tickets in section 120 give me a shout.
I attended the Nuggets/Pistons game on Feb 26th with my buddy Tom and Vanilla Ice was the half-time show. This is the second time I’ve seen Vanilla Ice at the Pepsi Center as he did the same thing last season.
I’m not a fan, the video was shot only for future laughs.
This is a No-No, c’mon dude this was a good game.
George Karl, being a trooper and working through his illness.
If you’ve ever wondered why they call Chris Anderson “The Birdman” here’s why.
The Nuggets beat the Pistons 107-102.
Next weekend is Frozen Dead Guy Days in my town of Nederland, Colorado.
I plan to do a huge entry with pictures on FDGD explaining exactly what it is so you’ll have to check back to read it.
The games have begun, and I’m ready for some fun in the sun.
D..The Rockpile Ranter
On the other hand, the Rockies pull out an Interleague win against the Tigers ending their seven game winning streak.
The Rockies are back in town on Monday. I won’t be at that game as I have to work. But I’ll be at Tuesdays game bright and early.

Wow, the Rockpile Rant is still managing to stay in the top ten. Congrats go out to the Happy Youngster. I figured Happy would take the top spot in this latest rankings. Any kind of controversy usually creates page hits but Happy’s blog had been working it’s way up regardless of the Coghlan thing.
Might I say it’s an honor to share the front page of MLBlogs with the above pictured bloggers. It was also cool to see fellow Rockies blogger Emily up there with me.
What a great day for Colorado Sports.
How about Aaron Cook? Cookie pitches a complete-game shutout and the Rockies get a 9-0 win over the Braves. Big Todd Helton was 3-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBI’s.
That’s what I’m talking about.
The Nuggets/Lakers game was incredible. I couldn’t be more proud of the Nuggets and their performance tonight. Nuggets take game two against the Lakers 106-103.
Enjoy being back in Colorado Kobe.
Melo, keep it up brotha you owned Kobe tonight.
I really could overwhelm you with pictures and a monster blog today, and as much as I’d like to do just that, tomorrow is the Rockies home opener and my folks are arriving in town so I’m a short on time but I’ll do my best.
Let me tell you that this Power Aid contest that Hunter won was really a good time and all of the folks who helped with this promotion were really on their game.
Inside the backpacks were a couple bottles of PowerAid, wrist bands, two T-Shirts, a Power Aid water bottle, a towel and an Autographed Carmelo Anthony jersey.
This jersey was the real deal too. Not a replica jersey like the one I was sport’n.
That was really cool of them and one helluva way to get greeted.
Hunter and I were floored.
Hunter told me later, “Dad I know you want this jersey but I want to have it framed”. I told him I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want an autographed Melo jersey but I didn’t want “his” jersey.
I tell you what though..I’m jealous as hell :).
After the presentation of the backpacks we all headed over to the trailer where they do all of the editing for the basketball game. They were really nice to us and explained in a nutshell what they do before and after the game inside this mobile trailer.
When we finished touring the trailer we walked over to the hallway and that was where we waited for Melo to show meet us..
While we were waiting I saw Anthony Carter walk by, Renaldo Balkman, Chauncey Billups and Chris Anderson (Birdman).
When Melo walked in as he passd me he saw I had on his # jersey and he gave me a hand slap.
Then he walked up to Hunter and the other winner and said hi and talked to them a little bit.
Hunter had a few questions he wanted to ask and Melo was REALLY cool about answering them. Melo was totally a class act tonight and it was really nice to see Hunter keep his stuff together and not get nervous and forget how to talk.
Here’s a video of Hunter asking Melo a few questions:
Then we headed out to the court to wait for Chris Marlowe (FSN play by-play announcer) to give meet the kids and tell them a little bit about what he does.
He shook my hand I said “Nice to meet you Mr. Marlowe” and he hit me back with “Call me Chris”. Chris I know you’re a busy guy but thanks for spending some time with “my guy”.
He writes a really good blog for the Nuggets and you have no idea how bad I wanted to slip him a Ranter card and talk some blogging with him. I reminded myself that tonight was Hunter’s night not mine.
Hunter was so good and so polite to all of these new people. I was really proud of him.
Here’s video of Chris explaining some stuff to the kids:
Enjoy the picture show and half-time video of “The Rubber Man”. Let me warn you about the Rubber Man, this video is way beyond strange.
We headed up to our seats on the first level Row 15 and watched the Nuggets go back and forth a little bit with the Thunder. In the end the Nuggets were just too strong with Melo scoring 31 points, JR smith scoring 17 and Nene scoring 21.
Nuggets win 122-110 and I would like to thank PowerAid, FSN Rocky Mountain, Altitude Sports, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Marlowe, Pepsi Center the Denver Nuggets and anyone else who may have had a hand in this once in a lifetime experience for Hunter.
Best beard of the evening————>
Tomorrow is the day, opening day at Coors Field.
I work half a day, go home for an hour then head out to Coors field for day one of Hagg’n, tagg’n, snagg’n and making memories so I can be bragg’n.
I’m D,….The rhyming Ranter with the funky fresh banter. Old Skool, but not an old fool.
4/2/09 Rockies beat the D-Backs today 7-4 :)
I’m willing to bet somewhere in Tucson is a slightly upset and confused Manny Corpas. Manny lost the closer job to Huston Street today. I’m not sure I saw that move coming, I’m not sure Manny did either.
I go back and forth with how I feel about Corpas. When I form an opinion of a Rockies player it’s not just on their baseball ability.
(Manny signing Hunter’s baseball)
My son and I had a few encounters with Manny at the beginning of a few 2008 Rockies batting practices. Both times Manny had the opportunity to really shine as a baseball player/human being and he took the lesser road.
On a positive note, Corpas seemed to be more aware of his fans as the season went on.
Anyways it’s not like he’s unemployed, he just gets to go to work a little earlier.
Street suffered a hip flexor strain last season and subsequently lost his closing position.
Rockies signed Huston to a one-year contract for $4.5 million.
Corpas makes $875,000. That includes a $125,000 prorated signing bonus and buyout on option). Corpas is in the first year of four-year $9.025 million contract which has an option for 2012 and 2013.
I wish them both luck.
Check this out, on April 8th my son Hunter and I will be going to the Pepsi Center early to take a tour of the Pepsi Center and FSN Video trailer where they do all of the editing and such for the Denver Nugget home games.
After that we get to meet Carmelo Anthony and Hunter is allowed to ask a few questions.
They suggested Hunter practice the questions beforehand as most kids get nervous and clam up when they actually meet Melo.
Then we’ll get to meet one of the FSN announcers. After all that Hunter and I get to watch the Nuggets warm-up from court-side. How cool is that? This is a prize package sponsored by Power-Aid/King Soopers and it’s pretty sweet.
The Nuggets play the Thunder, game is at 7pm. Just in case you’re wondering, no we don’t get to sit court-side for the game.
Those tickets are $675.00 a piece.
Expect a picture show of epic proportions after that game.
It will be good practice for me.
A little Nuggets basketball two days before the Rockies home opener.
Now that’s a lot better than sitting at home,…waiting… Go Rockies…D
It’s been a while since I’ve been to a Nuggets game and before the game started the Nuggets were on a four game win streak. The Nuggets are H-O-T (29-8) this season and I was hoping the wife and I’s presence wouldn’t interfere with that momentum.
Unfortunately we didn’t get there early enough to see the Nuggets warm-up. We arrived about five minutes into the game.
The star of the show tonight was my favorite Nugget J.R. Smith. Smitty scored an insane 40 points tonight. J.R. was allowed to start the game and seriously took advantage of that opportunity.
I’m glad that Krista, I and 18, 231 others in attendance were able to witness “Smitty’s Basketball School”. It was downright pleasurable watching the Wizzards being subject to “Professor Smith’s” night classes and failing miserably.
Here’s a picture show for you. As always let me know what you think. You don’t have to love basketball to enjoy a good picture.
Here’s Renaldo Balkman about to earn his money.
Linas Kleiza and the Birdman Here is Kleiza trying to “Be Like Mike” He skies pretty good for a white boy.
The Birdman showing off his no-look block. Birdman scored 18 points in this game.
One of J.R.’s many shots tonight.
Chauncey Billups scored 5 points and had six assists in his 32 minutes of play.
The score at half-time.
The Nuggets half-time show was wild. The outfits were so bright I thought somebody had possibly slipped something in my drink. The colors were intense.
The ladies strutting their bling.
I’m not quite sure exactly what I’m witnessing here but this dude had some rhythm.
Then it got really intense, it was starting to make me dizzy.
So by now the room is spinning so I had to look away to regain my balance. I looked up and what did I see?
A big old Coors can. Beware of the useless coupons that this and similar blimps like to drop on your head. You could really get hurt and the coupons are worthless. Tell you what, float a big “Fat Tire” beer bottle up there and maybe I’ll risk injury, but for a Coors (aka Rocky Mountain pisswater), I wouldn’t walk to the fridge.
Save you knees, a free paper isn’t worth an injury either. I tell you what, if those stupid blimps dropped baseballs it would be game on…
A Ranter basketball blog entry wouldn’t be complete without a obligatory cheerleader shot :)
Check out the guys face on the far right holding up the cheerleader, he’s hurting.
I’ll zoom in on his expression for you, priceless :)
Sorry dude, I didn’t mean to expose you nationally but you really need to work on your game face.
Love this expression.
By far the “Best Hat of the Game”. I guess if you can afford a snazzy hat like that, court side seats are chump change.
Kleiza going for the block with Birdman ready for the rebound.
The Birdman with the slamajama.
Birdman had 18 points, 11 rebounds and get this…6 blocked shots. All that in only 22 minutes. This dude is awesome to watch and the fans love him.
Welcome to Denver brotha, where you been?
I’m not sure who this guy was, but he may actually be attending Referee School.
He kept standing up and moving his arms and saying, “safe”. It’s cool, you meet all kinds of people at at Nuggets game and I like baseball.
JR Smith and Chris Anderson, making a name for themselves this season.
The Nuggets wave their magic wands and spell out the Wizzards 116-105.
(Go back and read that last sentence, nice huh? :)
Melo had 20 points and looked like he may have hurt his ankle?? Hope he’s ok.
Nene had 11 points and 2 blocked shots.
Thanks for stopping by, if your interested in of being one of the first people to participate in the new sport called Hagg’n let me know. If not we could always use cheerleaders..:)
Somebody once told me that when someone does you good, you’ll tell a couple of people. They also said when someone does you wrong you’ll tell a hundred. The good thing about being a blogger is I can reach out and spread the good word to a lot more than a hundred people :)…which leads me perfectly into the saga of the Key Club winner.
Rockpile Ranter, known nationally as a loyal Colorado Rockies and Denver Nugget fan. Today is a sad day. I never thought winning a prize could turn out to be such an experience.
I’ll give you a quick refresher.
I received an email from the
Nuggets Rep associated somehow with the Denver Nuggets telling me I’ve won the monthly Key Bank Key Club drawing.
2. I was informed that I had won dinner for myself and four guests at the Ridgeline Club at the Pepsi Center.
I also was told that had I won 5 tickets to the game and a Q and A session with a Nuggets Rep. I was really happy. The entire prize was valued at $800.00 so the e-mail stated. It also said I would have to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility because of the value of the prize.
3. I hopped online to check out the menu for the Ridgeline Club. It was a limited menu and I couldn’t eat anything on it.
4. I informed the Nuggets Rep about my situation and asked if I possibly could get an autographed Melo or Billups jersey instead of the dinner, and if possible a few tickets anywhere.
Am I out of line here? The dinner is valued at 304.00 according to “their” breakdown.
That’s about what a “REAL” NBA jersey not a cheap REPLICA jersey autographed by Billups would be worth. That’s a fair swap in my eyes. The original prize included five club level tickets. All I asked for was a couple of seats anywhere in the Pepsi Center.
To make a long story short (If you want to read the original emails go back a few entries).
If I refused the $800.00 prize and took the substitute prize, it would be the REPLICA Billups jersey and that’s it, no tickets to the game on the 20th, or any game.
I thought about it and decided an autographed Billups jersey would be cool and I wouldn’t have to claim that on my taxes. So I wrote Nuggets Rep back and said I would like to get the autographed jersey instead. I asked if I could have it in white and size 52, my size.
Guess what? Here’s what they responded with:
I actually already have the jersey to send you. It’s an alternative road jersey replica jersey, size XL. Thanks!
Huh, what do you mean XL? Are you telling me that all I get out of this whole $800.00 prize package is a Billups jersey that won’t even fit me? To add insult to injury, it’s not a REAL jersey. Oh and it’s not signed, here’s what she said about that:
I cannot take your jersey to have it signed by Chauncey Billups. We do not have access to the Nuggets Players. We receive all our autographed merchandise from Basketball Operations at the beginning of the season and cannot submit personal requests.
Let me just say, I don’t recognize the word “cannot”….. I prefer can’t.
If the jersey arrived autographed by Billups, the size wouldn’t matter because I would just frame it. But I would still want it to be a REAL jersey not a REPLICA jersey.
So in my eyes, I feel like I’m being punished and given a raw deal because of my weird diet.
Let me tell you my friends, this whole deal sucks. Nuggets, I bragged you up even when you didn’t deserve it last year.
I watch every game I can, and I attend about 10-15 games a year.
It’s day seven for me without a cigarette. I’m making it y’all. Today (other than this Key Bank headache), has been my best day so far.
In the end it’s not the Nuggets fault. It will fall totally on Key Bank with whom I was fond of until this fiasco.
I’ll take my lumps but never play me for a chump. As always, I look for a happy ending to all of this. If Key Bank steps up to the plate on this one I’ll give them serious props.
But if they drop the ball, well you all know what’s next. Hope I don’t have to go there…
UPDATE: I just received this email from the Nuggets Rep:
KeyBank has your information and the emails you’ve sent to me. They will contact you directly. The jersey is autographed.
Wow, well that answers that question, sort of.
Now is this the REPLICA jersey we’re talking about or the REAL one. Because I priced the particular jersey that you want to give to me and it cost 45 dollars on the Nuggets website because its a REPLICA…REPLICA = NOT REAL in case you don’t understand Jersey lingo.
Here’s a link to the: Nuggets jersey page. Check out the prices on the replica jerseys. Sound to me like they’re getting off really easy. NBA replica jerseys are just plain crap. They sell them at Wal-Mart. Why you wanna play the Ranter like a chump?
$45 vs $800, come on and admit it Key Bank, even you’ve got to think that’s kind of cheap??
I want all of you to know I’m just trying to get what I think is fair, wouldn’t you. I just want to feel like a winner and go see my favorite team play a basketball game?
Key Bank, I trust you’ll do the right thing here. I’ll be at game on Tuesday either way, but I’d prefer it be “on your dime”.
Jimmy’ Curran’s over at Baseball,The Yankees, and Life… has a great idea of dedicating your blog ranking to a player with that particular number. I dedicate my 8th place ranking to #17 Todd Helton. Just take the eight and add the five times he was an All-Star (2000-04) and the four times he won the Silver Slugger award (2000-03 the most out of all MLB first basemen). That adds up to 17. Don’t you love my math :)
Here’s a link to my: Nuggets autographs
I was wondering if someone might be able to help me out with this little mystery. I got a really good deal a a few 2007 World Series baseballs that I plan on getting signed either at Rockies Fest or spring training.
One of the baseballs showed up with an autograph already on it. I’ve spent a few hours researching this already. I haven’t given up, I’m just seeing if anyone out there might have a clue. I’m using my resources…Yeah that’s it.
Now common sense tells me the autograph is hopefully someone from the Rockies or the Red Sox because it’s a 2007 World Series ball. But you never know? I owe someone a drink if you figure this one out…D
That makes two Rockies who have received invitations. Brad Hawpe also has an invite but at this point he hasn’t committed.
I can’t wait to see Todd Helton back in the Rockies lineup.
Lets hope his back will back him up.
When Todd’s out on first base, everything seems right. When he’s at bat, anything can happen.
I miss that feeling, don’t you?
Speaking of Todd Helton, my friend Dan Sauvageau came over the other day and gave me a little gift.
He must know I’m a huge Helton fan because he gave me a Todd Helton Golden Glove bobble head from 2002.
The Rockies don’t have that many bobble heads compared to other teams and this one is REALLY cool. Notice the bright gold glove. Nice detail on this piece.
Thank you Dan, that was really cool man.
Dan has agreed to be my first Rockies Fan Profile of the regular season. I think that’s appropriate because Dan was the first person to ever come up to me and ask “Are you the Rockpile Ranter?”.
Dan is a good dude and I hope during that Fan Profile to be able to tell you about some of the really cool things Dan does for other Rockies fans.
There are many readers of this blog who can testify to Dan’s kindness and generosity. I
I mentioned Dan to my to my friends Gary and David, at first Gary didn’t understand and said “What you talking about Ranter”, but after he realized who were talking about, he and David agree Dan is a stand up guy.
In Nuggets news, goodbye Chucky Atkins. I really liked Chucky but the poor dude barely got any playing hardwood time.
We traded Chucky, a draft pick and cash considerations for center Johan Petro and a future draft pick from Oklahoma City, January 7th.
The Nuggets acquired center Johan Petro and a second-round-draft pick from Oklahoma City on Jan. 7, in exchange for guard Chucky Atkins, a first-round-draft pick and cash considerations.
Petro was averaging 4.6 ppg and 4.3 rpg in 22 games for the Thunder this season.
