Ok, this Rockies season was a bust and it’s quite possible we could achieve the 100 loss mark.
Just wondering how your still feeling about the lack of our homeboy Tom Helmer and his enthusiasm for the Rockies?
I don’t know about you but it seems to me the Rockies and Poot Warts need Helmer now more than ever.
Nothing against Joel Klatt pictured below.
Thursday is the last regular season game at Coors Field and Mike the Rox Addict and I plan to bring our “Bring Back Helmer” signs and just as we did the first game of the year we’re going to show our support hopefully pre-game and post-game.
What we need are Helmer supporters who can make signs and show up with arm power to hold them up.
If you miss Tom and feel it is essential that Poot Warts rehire him, get your ass up, grab a sharpie, find a chunk of cardboard and go to town with your sign making skills.
Poot Warts can tune out our chanting, but it’s difficult to mute a big ass sign?
WE NEED SIGNS!!
It’s the last game of the year…It’ll be months before you even think baseball again…Lets make a day of it and show support for the “HOMEBOY”.
Do you own one of the famous “Helmer is my Homeboy” shirts? Make sure you’re wearing it Thursday.
Then when we’re all done we meet at the Blake and talk about what a great day it was.
Shout out to the “Homeboy” maybe he can make an appearance??
Leave a comment below if you’ll be there with sign in hand or wearing one of those classic Helmer shirts.
I’m “D” The Ranter… Please…Bring Helmer back before the Cowboy starts frosting his tips.
Joel Klatt can’t Dance.
Stout…You Rock Brotha!
Rockies…Let’s steer clear of the 100 loss mark ok?
See you Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday…”D”
It’s not often the Rant get’s some props from anyone in Colorado or anywhere for that matter.
I was checking out local blogs and ran across an article about me. It was written by a local blogger known as Colin D. I first met Colin at the Tom Helmer rally at the Blake Street a while back. I knew the dude was cool because he was part of the duo who hosted the rally for the “Homeboy”.
Here’s the article Colin wrote:
Blog View: Rockpile Rant is a perfect fan blog
Written by Colin D.
My first encounter with the Rockpile Ranter (who’s real name I do not know) came via e-mail. Homeboy was pissed at me for reals.
I had used some of his personal photos here on the site without asking his permission. One of them had his kids in it, posing with a local sports television personality.
I found the shots in a Google Image search. The Ranter had uploaded them to his site – Rockpile Rant. I copied them and pasted them into a story I wrote about Tom Helmer’s stint with Root Sports – and how it had come to an unwelcome end. The photo I used really brought home the sense of loss I knew fans would feel when they learned Helmer’s contract had not been renewed. Unfortunately, the photo wasn’t mine to use.
The e-mail I received demanded that I quickly remove the picture with the children in it – but made no threats. I took the picture down. Soon I would meet the Rockpile Ranter.
James Hernandez of 5280 Shirt Shop and I teamed up to put on a party for Helmer and about 50 of his closest fans at the Blake Street Tavern. The Ranter and his family showed up and showed up big. They brought signs and hugs and heaps of Helmer love.
I introduced myself to the Ranter and apologized for the confusion. He took one look at my Rockies gear and told me it was all good, Bro. When I got home that afternoon I checked out his blog and I have been reading it ever since.
It’s a perfect fan blog.
The Rockpile Ranter (who’s name I do not know) gives visitors to his site a first-hand view of the Rockies from the perspective of a maniacal fan who takes a million photographs.
He flashes his trademark peace sign in poses with players, coaches, statues, ball parks and mascots. It’s clear that he’s having a great time and that he absolutely adores baseball.
The Rockpile Ranter makes me want to trade lives with him when I see much fun he has following Rockies baseball. Folks out East don’t think basefall fans like him exist in Colorado. I’m not sure I thought they did, either, until I met him and his family.
You really should visit his blog. The URL is http://baseballsnatcher.mlblogs.com/. It is absolultely the best Rockies fan site I have found.
I hope the Rockpile Ranter Enjoys this edition of Blog View. I stole another one of his pictures.

Nice guy…Give him some hits…”D”
The “Bring Helmer Back Now” Rally
First of let me say that I will no longer refer to the Company that let Tom Helmer go as Root Sports, they will now be known on the Rant as “Poot Warts”.
The Helmer Rally was held at the Blake Street Tavern. I’m not sure why as the Blake is very PRO Poot Warts but they had no problem with us talking trash about Poot Warts while we were inside so no worries. Plus it was close to the Poot Warts offices and we had a plan.
It was a Rally so I made a sign.
Downstairs in the Blake Street Tavern is where we all met.
Emily made a screen saver for Tom expressing how she feels.
Tom liked it.
James from 5280 Shirt Shop and Colin from the Southstands, the dudes who organized the Helmer Rally.
James donated 25 “Helmer is my Homeboy” T-Shirts for the Rally.
After a tiny bit of encouragement Tom was up on the Bar doing his thing.
Tom took time to hang out, chat and pose for pictures with everyone who showed up.
Poop Warts…. Tom Helmer is one of a kind and he was ours. How foolish of you let him slip away.
Why did you do this to Rockies fans?
Who is the “genius” responsible for this decision?
Why are we not hearing from that individual? Please explain, we deserve an explanation.
While standing up on the Bar, Helmer made a short heartfelt speech.
Tom with Emily and Dan of Bring Helmer Back NOW
Rox Addict chalking up another Running Man.
This season is going to suck without the Homeboy. He made a Rockies win that much better.
Poot Warts, I don’t like the way you roll.
You don’t care at all about “The Fan”, that’s just a BS slogan someone came up with that you thought sounded good at the time. A slogan you figured Rockies fans would believe. It sort of worked, at one time even I believed it.
Because of your lack of consideration for “The Fan” I’ve made it my mission(along with several other Rantics) to do everything we can to encourage Rockies fans to avoid your broadcast and totally diss your sponsors.
Now it’s up to you to prove to Rockies fans you care about “The Fan“. It’s not too late, this situation can still be reversed. I see you have Helmer’s job posted so that proves you didn’t even have anyone in mind when you made the snap decision to let him go.
People make mistakes I realize this. Step up, fix this one quick and all will be good in the world.
If not, and you continue to disrespect the Rockies fan base by ignoring us or by trying to appease us by replacing Helmer with some lower paid dullard…Then…
It’s ON Poot Warts…Let’s Play!
This was how we left it, so they could get a good shot of it Monday morning.
Click below for an article written by Dusty Saunders of the Denver Post about Tom which mentions the Rally.
I’m “D” The Ranter and I’ll be listening to a lot of radio broadcasts in the future and we’ll be posting a list of Poot Warts sponsors so you can be sure to avoid them.
Or you can call Jamie McIntosh in Advertising at Poop Warts(720-898-2700) and let her know exactly why you’ll be avoiding their sponsors.
They absolutely love supportive phone calls like that.
BRING TOM HELMER BACK NOW!!
You meet a lot of people in life. Most leave no impression but every now and then you meet someone who leave a lasting impression. For me that was Tom Helmer.
I can’t say exactly when I first met Tom but my first really good memory of meeting him was at the Top of the Rockies show towards the end of 2010. When I wrote the blog entry about the show I mentioned how cool I thought it would be interview one of the ROOT SPORTS (FSN Rocky Mtn back then) folks.
Not long after Tom emailed me and told me he enjoyed reading the Rant and said he’d be happy to let me interview him. That blew me away and I was stoked because I figured Tom would be a smooth first interview for me because he’s so laid back.
Tom kept his word and on a cold snowy day in January the Rantics and I met Tom and his wife at Champps. The Rantics all hung out and Alanna X and I interviewed Tom.
He was easy to talk and the two of them were a total class act.
After that Tom was an official “Rantic” and he solidified his place in the Rant as a stand-up guy.
Five years I’ve been blogging about the Rockies and Tom was the first one in Colorado Media to give me any props at all, thank you Tom.
Helmer “IS” the Rockies pre and post game.
Plus his “Tom on the Town” series is always fun to watch.
The kids and I won’t be celebrating any Rockies wins post-game at the ROOT SPORTS desk this season, the only reason we’ll be there is to shout “Bring back Helmer” and you better believe the Rantics will be there in full force.
I can tell you that I was extremely pro ROOT SPORTS at the beginning of last season. I bought in and plugged their new theme …”The Fan”.
Ok ROOT SPORTS time to put your money where you mouth is. “The Fans” you reference want Tom Helmer back…NOW!. He’s the heart and soul of your broadcast team and Rockies fans WILL suffer in his absence.
ROOT SPORTS you have totally misjudged the impact Helmer has on the Rockies fan base.
I’m not sure What direction ROOT SPORTS is headed but if it doesn’t include Tom Helmer I don’t need a map to tell you they’re going the wrong way.
Helmer was so cool he even had his own T-Shirts made and distributed them to fans for a good part of last season. Me being the original homeboy I got the first one.
I have nothing against the rest of the crew at ROOT SPORTS I like them, but none of them have close to the personality and charisma that Helmer has. Plus who the hell wants to see the Cowboy up on the desk after a Rockies win. Not me, that’s just scary.
Stand up Rockies fans, help our “Homeboy”. Do the right thing and let ROOT SPORTS know how you feel about this mess.
Here’s a link to their Facebook page: ROOT SPORTS..Rocky Mountain
Or you can email directly by clicking here: ROOT SPORTS Rocky Mountain email.
Please show your support for Tom by Liking the Facebook page Dan Created: Bring Helmer Back NOW
And Don’t miss the Save Helmer Fan Rally on Sunday at 2pm at the Blake Street Tavern. Then we march to Coors Field is support of “The Homeboy”.
I’m “D” The Ranter and ROOT SPORTS seems more like BOOT SPORTS to me right now.
“T”s the guy I had the Rockies/Giants bet with last year.
One bet turned into two bets. The most wins between each team overall(loser had to wear the other’s jersey for a day), and most wins when the Giants and Rockies face each other(loser had to cook hot dogs for the people we work with).
I won the overall and he won between our two teams.
We settled on Todd wearing a Rockies jersey for this Rockies game and I would buy him a hot dog at the game. Todd has been staying away from meat and up to today it’s been a month since the man has eaten any beef.
I convinced him to eat a Denver Cheesesteak during the game instead of a hot dog. He totally killed it.
Both bets are now paid off. We do not have a bet going for this season.
Todd and I hooked up after I got off work and headed for the downtown for a drink and a bite to eat. Upon walking up to the “Old Blake Street Tavern” we discovered it was closed and was re-opening today at 3pm in it’s new location just up the street.
At this point it was 2:55 so we waited :) Here are a few shots of the inside:
Great atmosphere, very cool staff, great place to go before or after the game or to watch a game. While we were having a bite to eat and waiting for batting practice it started seriously raining. It lasted thirty minutes or so and then the clouds seemed to break up.
At that point we headed over to the Rockpile gates to get in line for batting practice.
First in line that is. Well we were until we found out that batting practice had been cancelled five minutes before we were set to go inside(we then bailed). The sad part of that was the sun was out and it was some of the best weather we had seen all day.
When we finally entered Coors Field it was still somewhat sunny. All systems were go.
The beer was ready.
Everything was wet.
Dan and Emily.
Because of “T” we have a “Coors Field Crack of the Game” “T” spotted it.
We were all like WTF?? Then John explained that he had read about Robert’s run of bad luck snagg’n lately on the Rant and he wanted to help a brotha out.
We all got a good laugh out of that.
Robert kept the ball and spent the next hour bragg’n how he was the only one to snag a baseball today. It’s true, that ball counts.
I like that John, keep up the good work.
With the weather delay in full effect Robert, Todd and I headed back to the Blake Street Tavern to ride out the storm. Forty-five minutes later we heard the game was starting so we marched back to Coors and stood on the concourse waiting for the rain to stop.
It never really fully stopped raining so we headed down to our wet seats anyway. Here’s Todd and another fan sporting two teams stuff who sat beside us.
In the second inning Todd Helton hit a foul ball along the first baseline. I stood up and that ball was sailing right for me. At the last second it curved into the seats directly to the left of me and hit one of the chairs and bounced down.
There were a few seconds of chaos and in the end the guy sitting next to me with the red arrow above his head scored the ball.
Had he not been sitting there I would have gloved that foul ball easily. That was fun.
In the third inning Aaron Hill hit a home run to left field. I mention to Todd that it looked like Robert had snagg’d that ball. Five minutes later Robert called me and I said “Did you see me miss that Todd Helton foul ball by a foot?”
Robert yelled at me “No, did you see me get robbed of that Hill home run ball?”
I said, “What?” Robert excitedly informed me that after he had posession of the home run baseball another guy swiped the ball from his hands.
Here is Robert’s side of the story in his own words:
Here’s a picture of the guy who went home with that ball. This picture was taken and labeled by Robert.
Here’s the link to the video: Aaron Hill’s Two Run Homer.
I really didn’t take any game pictures because it was raining so hard and cameras are expensive.
Here are some video clips from the game.
Great day, strange weather. In the end they call the game after 6 innings and the Rockies get the win 5-3 over the Blue Jays. By the time Todd and I made it to the truck I was soaked head to toe.
One thing I’m learning about Ubaldo is he likes to pitch in warmer weather. Cold or rain has the ablility to throw him off his game.
Quote from Ubaldo : It wasn’t easy to be out there. I didn’t have any feel for any of my pitches, even my fastball. I was trying to throw hard and I couldn’t. … The ball just slipped out my fingers most of the time. Everything was wet. I couldn’t push off the mound.”
My next entry will be about the upcoming “Bloggers without Borders” during the Rockies/Red Sox game on Tuesday, June 22nd. I will swap places with “Dr Rocker” writer of Sox Rocker which is his Red Sox blog.
Also…. If you haven’t seen the very cool email from Mark Strittmatter in the last Rant entry you should go back and read it.
I’m “D” The Rockpile Ranter here to tell you that I still hate the rain, still love the Rockies and every now and then wish they would have put a retractable roof on Coors Field.
Thanks to “T” for a great day.
