The fish take a bite tonight and the Rockies lose their worm
5/8/09 Rockies vs Marlins
Krista, I and the kids arrived about twenty minutes before they opened the gates for batting practice.
That put us about fifth in line.![]()
You never know what the hell you're going to see when your standing in line in front of the Rockpile gate.
Todays entertainment was some band I don't know and the US Navy.

I'm more of an Army guy but my brother was Navy and this trailer looked cool.
Today's visit to Coors Field was Krista, Mylee and Hunter's first time this season.
The sky was heavy overcast at times with some serious wind gusts. We were one of the first few into the pavilion and it wasn't long after Mylee had snagged her first ball of the season.
It was tossed up to her by Manny Corpas.
That's what I'm talking about :) Thank you Manny!
One of the nice things about having my wife along is she doesn't mind taking pictures and video.
My kids did really well for their first batting practice. Hunter was lucky enough to snag five baseballs and Mylee snagged four.
Me,...well I only snagged two baseballs, but Krista was able to catch both on video.
Then my toss up from Marlins # 22 Matt Lindstrom
Here's Mylee snagging one of her baseballs.
After batting practice we headed over to the Rockies dugout.
When we got there I ran into a guy named Jeff with whom I had chatted before.
Jeff was telling me that he was able to pull off the glove trick today at Coors.
Jeff said he snagged a ball out of the waterfall area next to the pavilion using Zack Hample's glove trick.
I was floored. He also said this was the second time he had accomplished this.
Jeff nice to see you again and congrats on a prestigious snag from a Stadium known well for "No retreiving devices". I really like knowing that someone was able to get away with the "glove trick" at Coors.
Props to you brotha!
We watched the players warm-up and we were hoping to snag a few autographs.
Not today, Todd Helton and Brad Hawpe bolted into the dugout after warm-up.
Dexter Fowler stopped and signed for a bit but he was far to our left.
Spilly stopped and signed one autograph seemingly for someone he knew.
Chris Iannetta came out and did his usual pre-warmup signing routine.
Clint Barmes stopped and signed for a group of people to the left of us and so did Ian Stewart.
Ian's baseball tricks.
Here's a picture for my Hagg'n stats.
Hagg'n Stats for this game
Attending the game = 1 point
One snagged BP baseball on the ground (I'm quick) = 3 points
One player tossed up baseball = 2 points
Total = 6 points
Here are some big screen stats for you..

Jason Hammel gave up six runs for the night, three in the first three innings and three in the fifth inning.
Todd also has an 11 game hitting streak going :)
We saw Jeff Francis sneak out onto the field before the game started. I'm curious as to how Jeff's progressing? Will we get to see him pitch this season? Will he be like the 2007 Jeff Francis? Lots of questions with this guy.
Here is Jeff pre-game walking out to greet some fans.

Shaking a little hand.
Posing for a group picture.
Then back into seclusion.

Props to Tulowitzki for his home run in the first inning. He killed that ball and almost hit it out of the pavilion. Tulo also had an RBI double in the third inning.
Final score in this game was Marlins 8, Rockies 3. I hate losing to the Marlins, especially at home. Lets fix this mishap and pump out one of those Coors Field butt whoopins on Saturday.
I cant wait for better weather and only having to worry if I have sunblock instead of whether I brought a jacket.
Now the moment you've all been waiting for:
The Coors Field Crack of the Game
Also Best Dressed Fan (as decided by my wife Krista)
Zack Hample, check your closet and see if any clothes are missing :)
I'll be there Saturday for sure with Hunter. Who knows with who else...D![]()

I never knew that Hambone had never started against the Fish. We usually played them 6 times a year, and I never thought he did not get at least one start against them.
Awesome that the kids got some hagging rights of their own last night.
Shaggin'-family style. Sounds like a future Rockpile Rant video series to me.
Glad to see that your bats are beginning to heat up, and that the team is playing more as a unit. Now with Manny out, that division might just be a bit closer for everyone to take a bite out of it.
Gotta love HGC.

Hey keep an eye out for me tonight, but but if you see me at the game, just pretend you don't know me cause I only know you thru Facebook cause I am not supposed to have one so then my dad will figure it out and I will be dead and the only way we know each other and so my dad will be like How do you know each other? But if I have some time away from the father I may find a hello. But my dad doesn't want to show up that early cause he is not going to want to stay for bp so do you have a suggestion when is a good time to come if I just want some autographs or just to see a little bit of before the game. Well anyways, I am super excited for tonight. If you do get a few pictures of the national anthem band cause some of my school friends are playing in it and I was but I was debating on whether I would want to be out there and not get autos or what not so I didn't but just keep an eye out for them. Well have a fantabulous time!

Hey D,
Great picts! My 2 favorites are the 1st one of you and the baby goats (kids...baby goats Ha! Ha! Ha! Yeah, I'm in serious need of some sleep) and the one of Francis shaking hands with that little girl. Like the new Best Dressed Fan category, there should be a lot of photo ops for that one. Hope you and Hunter have a great time at the game.

Once again, love your pics and stories. Awesome to see and hear that stuff when I can't get there myself. Looks like your kids had a great time!
Cool pics of Jeff Francis. He appears to be a class-act kinda guy. :0)

LUVMYROX-Thanks, seems since Francis his hurt he gets to do a lot of PR stuff before the game.
R-LUV-LOL, get some sleep girl. When is you're next game?
BBCHICK-Didn't see you there. Always head to the Rockies dugout for autographs before the game. I took a few pictures of the bands and I shot the video of them playing the anthem for you. Hope you like it.
JULIA-Krista said thank you.
RAYSREN-Hambone..lol..I like that. It doesn't break my heart that the Dodgers lost Manny. Rockies are like 9 games back from the Dodgers. I keep hoping we'll get it all together soon...D

Uh oh, this could definitely be some bad news for me in September then, if Hunter and Mylee continue to snag the way they did on their first trip to the ballpark this season. And that one picture your wife took of Mylee snagging her first baseball is by far one of the greatest Kodak moments I have ever seen. JEEZ, I can't wait to get to this beautiful ballpark in a few months!

I wish I had to worry about sunblock. Having a retractable roof is just a reminder that we can only open it a month out of the season.
As always, awesome pictures. Mylee is adorable.
Gonna have to agree with the wife on that, uh, interesting outfit. Goodness.

D,
Just call out that to Jason Hammel and he will look around at you. That was Joe Maddon's name for the South Carolina native while with the Rays.
And he is a real country boy at heart. Great guy to talk to about baseball.

DONNIE-Hunter is tough to beat, I should have entered him in the Ballhawk league. You'll have fun here brotha.
KYLIE-Look at the bright side, retractable roof = dry and warm. I can't count the times I've been wet and cold this season.
RAYSREN-I'll do that next chance I have, thanks for the tip brotha...D
