Frostbite ain’t Right

Frozen Dead Guy Days 2012…Day 2

Wind vs The Will to Party

Weather wise today was a fregg’n mess. Mother Nature decided she couldn’t give us mountain folk a break for even one day and Nederland was pummelled by vicious sub-zero winds the entire day.

The winds were so cold that the Polar Plunge and Coffin Races had to be postponed until Sunday for fear of someone getting blown out of a coffin during the race, or the Polar Plungers turning into human popsicles.

I know postponing these events was a tough call for event organizers to make because so many people were planning on driving up for this.

It was totally a safety issue and they did the right thing by rescheduling.

I guess the thing that ticked off some folks was they had been informed that the Parade of Hearses, Polar Plunge and Coffin Races had been moved to Sunday. That was what I thought too until Hunter and I went to the Teen Center to register for the Polar Plunge and we were informed that the Parade of Hearses would be taking place at noon as originally scheduled.

Hunter and I hurried home to pick up the rest of the crew so we could get down to Main Street in time to watch the Parade.

Start of the Parade of Hearses.

Normally all of the Coffin Race teams participate in the Parade. Today only a couple of teams braved the sub-zero winds. The Parade this year was much smaller than it normally is. A combination of weather and mis-information I believe.

Below is Demon Dawg, he’s a member of the Society of Funeral Coaches. He’s dressed as Jackal from 13 ghosts.

The Ice King and Queen of 2012.

Later on, Mike and I took a drive over to the dam to get a shot of the blowing snow.

Hunter and I are still doing the Polar Plunge at 1pm Sunday..Mother Nature permitting.

I’m “D” The Ranter…No I didn’t get frostbite, but I could have🙂

With Poppers and Wind…Frozen Dead Guy Days Begins

Frozen Dead Guy Days Opening Ceremonies

This isn’t a huge event but it is the official start of Frozen Dead Guy Days. This took place at 7pm at the round about in Nederland. The Mayor of Nederland and Amanda Macdonald(the new local owner of FDGD) were present to kick off the festivities for this year.

Not a huge crowd, but the wind was kick’n and it was below zero with the windchill.

The popping of the poppers.

A cold weather dance from the world-famous Skeleton Dancers.

That was it. We haul’d ass back to the truck.

Frozen Dead Guy Days is roll’n.

Time to get your freak on, just keep that freak warm.

Unfortunately the wind has messed up some of the festivities for Saturday.

The Polar Plunge and Coffin Races have been moved to the same time on Sunday due to the crappy weather.

Sunday is supposed to be much nicer.

I’m “D” The Ranter and now I have another day to think about the Polar Plunge.

Good Times🙂
