4-17-11 Cubs vs Rockies Game 3

At this point in this series the Rockies and Cubs are tied at 1-1.![]()
First bobblehead game of the year and it’s a cool one. Lots of folks showed up early.
They showed up early because it’s the Ubaldo Jimenez commerative no-hitter bobblehead and there’s only 10,000 of them.
Hunter and I got ours
We sort of missed our chance to go onto the field for autographs so we stayed in the pavilion for batting practice.
Gary X has proved to me in a very short time that he is a master at autograph collecting. ![]()
Staying turned out to a wise move as I snagged my first homerun ball on the fly. I can’t tell you how good it felt and it was a nice catch to boot. In my head it was nice to know I still got it. I gave that ball away to a little guy there with his folks.
Once again Hunter showed his Pops how it’s done and by the end of BP he managed to snag four baseballs, two of which he gave away to young Rockies fans. Hunter “gets it” and I couldn’t be more proud of my guy.
Here are a few pre-game shots.
Best shorts of the game.
Some VERY cool dudes I work with.

Here are the game shots in absolutely no order.
I call this one “Flying Cargo”.

“That person who wears a Broncos shirt to a Rockies game”
I’m sure I’ll have at least one of these a game for ya.![]()

In what was a tied game going into the 8th inning. The Rockies decided it was time to end the stalemate and opened up a can of something?
Rockies scored four runs to make the score 9-5. Huston Street did what he normally does in the ninth, and the Rockies take two out of three from the Chicago Cubs.
Here’s Homeboy Tom Helmer doing what he normally does.
GO TOM!!
I recently did a phone interview with Michael Posner who works in the Commissioners Office. It was arranged by Sarah Leer of MLB.
Michael is the Program Director for the Baseball Authentication Program for Major League Baseball.
I have wanted to interview a Baseball Authenticator for a long time and with the help of Queen Geri and Sarah, Michael and I had very informative chat for about twenty minutes.
In the near future I hope to actually chat with a Baseball Authenticator that works at Coors Field and get a feel for what he does. I plan to do this blog entry in two parts so look for Part 1 in the near future.
Great stuff about baseball authentication… Really nice guy, I learned a lot from Michael.
I”m “D” The Rockpile Ranter and if you haven’t noticed I’m upping my game.
I’m thinking about giving “Live Blogging” another shot. I’m a little better prepared this time so we’ll see how it goes.

Another great blog D. My favorite pic is the one of Herrera leaping – just hanging out in mid-air! I’m very interested in reading about the authenticator program. You should write it like a magazine article, and try to sell it to Sports Illustrated or a baseball magazine or somewhere. It’s probably something most fans (except yours) don’t think or know about. You’d be doing our entire country a great service! Maybe Alanna Rizzo would interview you for Root television! Then you’d go on the Tonight Show or Letterman . . . maybe not. But it’s something to imagine! See you at the ballpark soon! -Geri
Man this entry is loaded with shots! I think you are enjoying your new camera, I know that I am. Great that the Rox pulled out a win in this game to take the series. I went Monday night and nearly saw a no-no by Timmy Lincecum. Excellent that you snagged your first BP HR catch of the season. This is the year that you get a gamer! I can feel it!

Hey D,
WOW!!!!! Those are some unbelievable shots you got. You really should do that for a living!
So glad we didn’t get swept by the Giants. The team’s got to figure out how to win more games against them.
When’s your next game. I’m definitely going May 1st but might try to go before then.
Keep taking those amazing pix!
Queen Geri- Thanks, actually Sports Illustrated has done an article already about the same thing. As always I appreciate your support and kind words..Thanks for your help with this too.
KEN-Yes I am, the game homer will happen someday. I got a feel’n it’ll be special
R-LUV-Wish I could do it for a living, I love taking pictures at Coors Field. AGREED, glad this wasn’t a sweep. My next games are April 29 + 30th and possibly the 1st.
Ranter-
Hey man, awesome blog this year so far.
I was curious, ar those front row outfield tickets available to purchase at the box office? Im planning on flying out to Coors over Memorial Day weekend and Im just curious if that front row is for like, season ticket holders only or something.
Anyway, man. Once I confirm Im coming out Ill drop you a line. I dont know if you remember me from last year at the Royals game. We regonized each other but really didnt say hi. Lol. But I high fived you. Good stuff

WAYNE-Thank you and I think I remember you from KC. It’s hard to get a ticket in the front row as they are all season ticket holder seats now. Every now and then you see one on Stubhub. Unfortunately you can’t just go up to the ticket window and get a seat there. Let me know when you’ll be out and I’ll see if I can make that game. Take care brotha…D
