Could it be…The Ranter on TV?

4/26/09

After it all happened I figured I might be on TV. Props to Robert for snaggin Spilborgh’s home run ball in the third inning. Spilborghs is his favorite Rockies player.

Robert was sporting Spilly’s Jersey and immediatly after he snagged that home run ball Spilly’s dad called Robert on his cell phone.

Don’t believe me,… look how happy this old man is.

Robert asked me later how close I was to him when he snagged that ball and I told him if he had stopped any shorter we’d have known each other too well.

Good job Robert, the dude is quick. Next time I’ll sit on the other side of him.

Click on the link below and check out the video of it all:

Rockpile Ranter on TV/ Roberts snag of Spilly’s home run

I  know I didn’t get the ball but at least I didn’t look like a chump my first time on TV :)Me first in line 4-26-09.jpg

Today I was the first in line at the Rockpile gate and things were as they should be in Rockie land.

First in line at the gate puts me first into the Pavilion.

Empty Pavilion.JPG When the batting cages are out it gives me an extra few minutes before the place starts to crawl with people.

As you can tell from this picture, first didn’t mean much today.
No batting practice.JPG                                           No cages = No batting practice

Here is a shot of Dan and Robert politely discussing one of yesterday’s batting practice snags :)

Dan and Robert 4-26-09.JPG      Something about somebody stepping on somebody’s foot if I remember correctly? :)

I was lucky again today and Dan hooked me up with a Row 1 ticket. This enabled me to go onto the field during the autograph session. I’ve never done this before and let me tell you it was beyond cool.

Check out the video of me entering the field:

I love this picture of the field this is from the roped off dirt area we were in behind home plate.

RPR on Coors Field -1.jpg                                       I managed to get four autographs today.

On the left is Jason Hammel and on the right is Ryan Speier.

Manny Corpas came out and signed for a few people then split.

Ubaldo Jimenez also came out and signed for the whole group.

I skipped Ubaldo because I have him already. I was able to give him a knuckle bump and wish him good luck this year. Nice guy.

The other two autographs I snagged were Franklin Morales and Jason Grilli.

Here is  Jason Hammel coming up to sign for us.

Looks like Jason will get his first start for the Rockies on Monday’s game against the Padres.

                  Good luck Jason!

In the video below Robert and I were almost to the Pavilion when I heard someone call out “Rockpile Ranter”. That someone was Missy from “View from the Rockpile”.

Missy is an Usher at Coors Field and was on her way to Gate E when we ran into her. This was the first time her and I have met and it was really cool to finally run into her at a game.

Back in the Pavilion. Here was the view to the right of my seat. Thank you Dan!

An in your face, blue bashing, get out of town, you got lucky on the last one, Rockies win.

I especially love beating the Dodgers.

Days like today are special. How often does a person get to go underneath Coors Field, then stand on the field and get autographs? I’m glad I could share some of it with you.

I’ll be at Coors tomorrow for batting practice (weather permitting).

Who knows what whill happen? Stay tuned…D

Awesome pix and vids! From the looks of things, either you got onto the field for autographs way earlier than most, or there weren’t that many folks there? Last year we went for Photo Day, and ack. . . it was so crowded and crazy! Wish I coulda been there today. Great stuff! :)

Dude!

Great stuff.

I love the photos.

I loved that video of you on TV! Hope Hunter is feeling better.

JOY/LUVMYROX-Thanks, it was a cool day. I’m still buzzing. What’s up with the snow this morning?
ZACK-Thanks for the comment brotha, your’re the reason I’m here :)
JULIA-Hunter looks better, feeling ok, Thank everyone…D

Holy cow, how much did you have to pay Zack to leave you a comment? lol Also, Robert, if you are reading this, you were way too excited after “picking up” Spilly’s home run ball, act like you’ve been there before. :)

Hey D, sorry I didn’t get to see you yesterday. But I do have a question: Did you crop the pics of Brad & Spilly and then Brad & Jeff? Cause if you zoom out just a little bit, I’m like right there in the stands. I’m finishing up my blog entry, and it should be up in a little bit. My Hagg’n points will be there. Hopefully I’ll catch you at the next game!

Looks like you had some fun. Very cool pics! =)

Sweet pictures. Tulo has so many tics–pushing his jersey up, biting his fingernails…
I love that Chris signs before every game! A lot of guys get disillusioned with their fame and forget how much fans adore them (coughcoughbradausmuscoughcough).
Kylie — http://kylie.mlblogs.com

I would’ve took a pic of you down there but my digital camera being crappy as always would’ve blinded you with the bright flash & plus the flash probably would’ve reflected off your video camera leaving me with a bright spot in the middle.srsly. if you know a place that sells better digital camera’s for less tell me! I’ve seen better digital camera’s from fans that makes mine look like a child’s toy.
“Missy is an Usher at Coors Field”this year they made me a rover. that means I’ll be hangin’ at Gate E assisting Tony with watching the guests as they enter, take tickets, etc. & help give the other folks in other spots take their 15 min breaks. What’s dumb about it is what my mom said to me “Why did they make you a rover? My guess is they’re gonna let you go.”

I’m like WTF are you talkin’ about mom? If they didn’t need me anymore they wouldn’t have sent me a “Returning staff” form, only a letter saying “Thank you for 10yrs of service but we won’t need you back this year.” They’re just over staffed for the first time this year instead of under staffed.

BTW I’m not working Mon or Tues game, I’m working Wed’s day game. I just heard on the news that Tulo’s been benched for tonight’s game because he hasn’t been playing good.Missyhttp://rocktober-2007.mlblogs.com

MISSY-I looked for you but didn’t see you Mon. Now I know why :) I won’t be at Wed’s game. You’ve got ten years in Missy, you are not going anywhere.
KYLIE-Thanks, Chris signed for me on Monday’s game. H’s a great guy.
ALEX-I cant remember, I’m off on Wednesday and I’ll do some research on that picture.
DAN-He (Robert) was pretty happy for a ball snagged on the bounce :) As far as Zack goes,… in all honesty if it wasn’t for Zack I probably wouldn’t have met you sir. I just want to see the “King of Snag”(Zack) work Coors Field anywhere other than “Row 1″. You know,…show me what I’m doing wrong :) .
Everyone, I have tickets but I’m not sure if I’ll make tonight’s (Tuesday) game. I was told the next game I attend I can tour the manual scoreboard. I’m really looking forward to that. I nailed it Hagg’n yesterday and there wasn’t even a batting practice. Also I managed to get Todd Helton’s and a few others autographs :). I’ll have that entry up after work today…D

There you go D,
I told you Hambone would be a great guy for autographs. Sorry Jason Hammel did not have a great night Monday night, but your bats erupted and saved the day/night.
Isn’t it funny the small fights and discussions you get into at BP about the previous day, and some are so trivial you can not believe you even argued about them.
Hey, does that know he stole your TV moment? At least he caught the ball and did not hand catch it with the palm of his hand and you see that smack into the palm and then it goes 7 rows above him into some guys nachos.
The Rockpile Rant’s moment will come, and it will be glorious in 2009.

Hey D,
I’m glad you and Hunter are better. Mumps! Yikes! Yeah, unfortunately a lot of that stuff is coming back.
Sweet video. I thought that was you when I caught part of the game on TV in So. Cal. That totally rocks. Looks like you had an awesome Hagg’n day!

Of course the man looks happier after snagging the home ball. But taking your chances to be on TV because you wee seated next to a guy who snubbed Spilborgh’s home run ball in the third inning is just being way too much opportunist. – Jordan

Not sure what you mean with your comment. Of course Robert looked happy, Spillborghs is his favorite Rockies player and he managed to snag Spilly’s first home run of this season at Coors. Secondly I’m on an eternal hunt to catch my first live home run game ball and you have to take any opportunity you can get.
Robert could have bobbled that ball and I or someone else could have wound up with it you never know. Either way Robert and I are friends and I’m glad he got that ball…Plus I don’t think there is anything wrong with getting your mug on TV as long as your not doing something stupid..Anyways welcome to the Rant brotha…D
