Collection of Sports Autographs to Date
5/31/08 Colorado Rockies Autographs
Pictured above are Tulo, Clint Barmes, Ubaldo Jimenez, Jorge De La Rosa and Jonathan Herrera( on one ball), Ryan Speier, Franklin Morales and Micah Bowie. The autograph on the ticket stub is Omar Quintanilla I got two years ago.
The baseballs on top are batting practice balls from this year that we will be use for autographs from now on. I have snagged six batting practice balls so far this year and one has Ubaldo Jimenez’s autograph on it and the other ball Hunter had signed by Tulowitzki.
DENVER NUGGETS 2008
I am fortunate to have a good buddy of twenty years who works for the Nuggets.
I was able to attend most of the Denver Nuggets home games this year.
I bought most of my own tickets, but he was able to get me backstage after the games.
The Red ones will get you through the tunnel backstage after the game.
If you had a yellow one it would get you in locker room. (I’ve never had one of those).
Brick #1.
The first game I was able to go backstage was on Jan 17, 08. Nuggets vs Jazz.
I had no idea I would going backstage and was totally unprepared.
I managed to buy a sharpie at the Nuggets store, but what I really wanted autographed was a basketball.
Ouch, the price for an NBA basketball was over a hundred bucks.
So I decided to use one of the bricks that Nuggets fans wave when an opposing player is trying to shoot a free throw.
Not only are they free, but they are actually great for getting autographs on.
I know people say not to laminate autographs, but that’s because it makes it harder to verify the autograph’s authenticity.
Every single autograph I own has been obtained by me personally. I do not own a single autograph that I have not personally had signed in front of me.
On the bricks I attach the backstage pass for that game, the date, which team the Nuggets played that day, the player’s who autographed the brick, and the final score.
On the first brick I had the ticket laminated with it and it worked fine. Unfortunatly it didn’t work so well with the next two bricks because the ink was temperature sensitive and the tickets turned black.
Autographs on this Brick # 1 are: Linas Kleiza (career high 41 points that game), Marcus Camby, Eduardo Najera, Yakhouba Diawara, Anthony Carter, and JR Smith.
I looked over to see Carlos Boozer of the Jazz sneaking out and asked him politely for an autograph.
He said “sure’ and signed the back of this brick. He was really cool about it.
Nuggets beat the Jazz 120-109.
Most of Nuggets are really good about signing autographs, but not all of them.
I have yet to snag an autograph from Carmelo Anthony or Allen Iverson.
It’s not that they won’t sign autographs backstage, it’s just that they don’t go over to the autograph area after the game. Iverson usually makes an appearance but but sneaks out the door without signing. That’s cool, at least I got to see him. I have never seen Melo after a game. He usually sneaks out of the Pepsi Center through another more private exit.
Brick # 2![]()
The next time I got an opportunity to go backstage was Jan 25, 2008.
This game was the Nuggets vs the Nets.
Nuggets won.
Autographs on this brick are: Kenyon Martin, Chucky Atkins and Yakhouba Diawara.
I felt bad because when I saw Chucky Atkins because I interrupted him during his phone conversation by asking him for an autograph. Usually I’m a little more respectful than that.
Oh well, it was the first time I had seen him backstage.
He was chill about it, he held up his finger as to mean “wait a minute”, and when he was finished with his call he came over and signed the brick. He also signed a picture for me and so did Kenyon Martin. I will post the autographed pictures at the end toward the end of this entry.
Brick # 3
Is from the 3/7/08 game vs the Spurs.
Nuggets won 109-96.
The autgraphs on this brick are: George Karl, Anthony Carter, Nene and Sean Elliot (a retired Spurs Player now sports commentator).
My wife and I were at that game. I got Brick # 3 autographed and she got the black basketball signed.
Autographs on this basketball are:
Anthony Carter, Taureen Green, Linas Kleiza, K-mart, Chucky Atkins and tucked away in the corner, George Karl.
Here is a my Nuggets hat with George Karl, Anthony Carter and Chucky Atkins Autographs.
Linas Kleiza from Lithuania (aka, the L Train)
One of my favorite players Eduardo Najera.![]()
Kenyon Martin. My daughter Mylee’s favorite player.![]()
Coach George Karl has a great routine for signing autographs.
He walks out, goes to the front of the line, signs his autograph, and then uses that sharpie to sign everyone else’s stuff.
Then he casually walks back to the first guy in line whose sharpie he used and returns it.
How cool is that?
George Karl is a good guy.
.
JR Smith
I’ve always been an Allen Iverson fan, but I really enjoyed watching JR last season.
His three point scoring carried the Nuggets for a number of games this year. JR became a dominant player towards the end of the season and as a result received a lot more play time.
It will really be cool to see what JR developes into. It was fun to watch him play this year. That 360 degree dunk he did over Dampier of the Mavericks was bar none, the best (non-game determining) basket I have ever seen live.
I have a picture of that dunk on my wall waiting to get autographed. JR is really good about signing. I can tell you that it was easier to get his autograph at the beginning of the season than it was toward the end.
(aka Kooba)
Kooba spent most of the season keeping the bench warm, but was always the one of the first players out to sign autographs.
He has signed several times for me and has always been approachable.
Check out his autograph… it’s different.![]()
Anthony Carter is the best for signing autographs.
He’s super friendly and has always signed for me. AC was fun to watch play this year and he is an important part of this team
Thank you AC !
And my last autographed picture is of Chucky Atkins.
Chucky got a lot more play towards the end of the season when he replaced Anthony Carter.
He’s about my size maybe shorter. It just shows you dont need height to play in the NBA.
A picture from my seat at the Nuggets vs Detroit Game.
In case you don’t follow basketball, the Nuggets were swept and thus eliminated in the first round of the Playoffs by the LA Lakers. That’s all I gotta say about that.
Thanks for looking..D

Krista and I at the Broncos AFC Championship game against the Steelers
Heres a clip : AFC Champ.AVI
Heres another clip..you can feel the intensity: AFC Champ 2.AV
I was offered over $800 a piece for those AFC Championship tickets and Krista wouldn’t sell. I begged her and she still wouldn’t sell.
The Broncos played like they didn’t care and they got crushed by the Steelers. Right after the game was over Krista said “You know, we should have sold those tickets”.
Next weekend we will be attending Broncos Fan Fair.
Every player, coach, select Broncos Alumni and even the cheerleaders will be there. Autograph sessions, picture sessions, stuff for the kids to do. It will be our first time there and we are going both days. I’ll do an entry for each day.
Unfortunately I’ll miss Rockies autograph Sunday on the 8th..I hate that.
I’m really looking forward to this next homestand. Hopefully with the home crowd behind the Rockies it’ll spark something This last round of losses has been difficult.
When it rains it pours, Rockies lose 7-4
5/28/08
I’m not sure what I expected of the Rockies in Game two vs the Phillies. I know the twenty run old fashioned butt whoopin they bent over for the night before didn’t set well with them or this Rockies fan.
Maybe I expected them to come out fresh and ready to strike back. Putting the game last night behind them.
Maybe I expected Ubaldo Jimenez to take ownership of that mound and control this game. Not have his worst outing of the year.
He’s now 1 and 10 in his starts.
Maybe, I wanted the Rockies the show the Phillies in Philidelphia that the magical run last year wasn’t a fluke, and …..well none of that happened.
Rockies lose two straight to the Phillies with a final score of 7-4.
Blame it on the rain..You know when it rains it freggin pours.
On a positive note…..Garrett Atkins is back in the lineup.
He went 1 for 5, and finished pain free.
Welcome back Garrett!!
Seth Smith went 3 for 5, and continues to show us why he doesn’t work in Colorado Springs anymore.
Keep it up Seth,..carve your niche while you have the opportunity
<—-Remember the pinball machine Slugfest?
LET ME TELL YOU WHAT I NEED..A Colorado Rockies, bottom of the 9th two out slugfest.
You Know What I’m Talking About !!
What the Hey…I Guess I’ll Stay
5/23/08
Wow, I was the featured Blog on MLBlogs.com for a couple days. What an honor. Pretty strange logging in to Mlblogs and seeing my mug on the front page. I was really starting to get discouraged from the lack of Rockie fan love(comments) on this blog.
MLBlogs thanks for noticing and giving me the inspiration to keep doing this. A pat on the back does wonders sometimes. I hope I can do MLBlogging proud.
I’m heading to the Rockies game today and in my possession are some serious tickets.
Section 144 ROW 1.
Look for me on TV. I’ll be wearing my trademark green hat and a big a-ss smile.. I’m on the third base side about thirty feet past that big tarp they use on the infield.
I’m hoping a few more balls get hit foul along the third base this game than did last game. I had the same seats on Wednesday’s game and saw exactly one foul ball along the third base line in ten innings.
That really sucked. I was so excited about possibly snagging a game ball I could hardly focus on the game. Any other snaggers out there feel me on that one? I didn’t move out of my seat for the entire game.
I have the serious sunburn to prove it.
At Wednesday’s game I saw an older fella about forty feet to the right of me get clocked by a foul ball crushed by Todd Helton in the side of his head.
(The picture is not of the old guy it’s just a prop used for dramatic effect)
The staff helped him upstairs to administer first aid, Amazingly the dude was back about 15 minutes later, down but not out.
He’s tough, he must have been prior Army (shameless plug).
Later the Ushers brought him the ball that clocked him with a fresh autograph from Todd Helton.
Hard price to pay for an autographed ball, but what a story this guy has to tell his grandkids.
Hit me Todd, please ! (I’ve yet to get Helton’s autograph)
Me sitting in Section 144 Row 1
I’ll be at batting practice today. It’s been a really good day for me,..and I got a good feeling.
Go Rockies…D
Everything’s fine when you get Ubaldo to sign
5/19/08
Every once in a while you have one of those days where the planets align and everything just goes your way.
Today was my day. I’m going to every game this week except for Sunday.
I figured there would be batting practice today since neither team had a late game yesterday.
I arrived early and was the first person in front of the Rockpile gate. I would have been the first through the gate except for a young boy who didn’t have a backpack managed to sneak in before me.
No worries, I’m ok with that.
Anyways, I was also the first to arrive at the left field pavilion and as luck would have it I was correct. Both teams were on the field and Rockies were full into their batting practice.
I brought a baseball with me that I had snagged at batting practice a few games back. I was hoping to get that ball signed because I didn’t have any more of the Rockies emblem balls that I had been using up to that point.
On the field standing directly in front of me were Manny Corpas, Willy Taveras, and Ubaldo Jimenez.
I waited for the perfect opportunity to ask Manny for his autograph because I had seen him sign from that exact spot before. He looked at me and shrugged his shoulders at me like he couldn’t do it.
That’s not true.
The players do sign autographs from that spot, I’ve seen it before.
Your still ok in my books Manny, but you need to spread some cheer. Think back to when you were a kid.
Luckily, I saw Ubaldo coming over to get a ball that had hit the wall and a guy in row one hit him up for an autograph. ![]()
He signed it and then I made my move.
Before he turned around I said “Ubaldo will you please sign my ball”, and to my surprise he motioned for me to throw the ball to him.
I threw it right to him and then tossed him my pen. He signed it, and threw back the ball and my pen.
Ubaldo, THANK YOU man!
You really made a fans day
Manny..take some notes here.
I’m standing in the pavilion not even two minutes and I hear a loud CRACK.
I looked up to see a ball heading directly for me. I didn’t even have to move.
I started to get the feeling of people surrounding me.
I stood on my toes, leaned over, reached out and
POOF
The ball landed perfectly in my glove.
That was the second batting practice ball I’ve straight up caught
Ok now I’m a freggin Rockstar.
Suddenly I’m surrounded by a mob kids that think I have the magic spot or something. I decided to try another location but wound up with just that one ball..
Autographs this year so far-8
Autographed Rockies baseballs so far-7
Clint Barmes, Tulo, Ryan Speirer, Franklin Morales, Ubaldo Jimenez, Jorge De La Rosa and Jonathan Hererra(both on the same ball) , Micah Bowie, Jonathan Hererra.
I really wanted Jorge De La Rosa to have a great night.
Hunter and I each had baseballs autographed the day before by him. I really thought Jorge seemed like a young guy who had his act together.
Guess who threw out the first pitch tonight?
The Maytag repair man .
That was different. Better him than some CEO I don’t know.
I really think they should pick a fan from each game to throw out the first pitch.
How cool would it be if you were chosen?…A guy can dream.![]()
In the end. Rockies pull this one off and win 4-3.
De La Rosa gets the win. Rockies have now won three in a row.
Baby steps but this feels good.
I’ll be there tomorrow and we’ll go from there.
Go Rockies…D![]()
Autograph Day Two…Like in Tulo
5/4/08
Hunter and I showed up early as usual for batting practice, but neither team was on the field and no practice cages were out.
As anyone who attends batting practice on a regulr basisknows, at that point
you almost want to go home. It sounds silly, but seeing a game without first seeing batting practice is like eating a Rockies Dog with no bun.
Yea its a hot dog, but it just needs more.
Maybe it’s just me.
On the bright side, Sundays are special at Coors Field. Yup, thats right because it’s Autograph day.
I really dig autograph day. To be honest, one of the things I didn’t have in the Army was a lot of patience. It’s something I’ve been working on and believe me trying to get autographs will teach you some patience.
Loooong lines. There’s lines to park, lines to buy your tickets, lines to get in early for batting practice, lines to take a whiz, lines to wait for the rope be released so you can run to get in line to wait to get your autograph and lines to leave the parking lot.
Well my newfound patience served me well on Sunday because an injured Troy Tulowitzki was rumored to be one of the players signing.
Hunter and I waited in a massive group of some Tulo hungry Rockies fans for that yellow chain to be dropped.
When it was finally lowered it was mob rules and Hunter and I were big and bad right in the middle of it.
It was awesome, we were both running and laughing. Shoot,…were both in good shape so we smoked most of them.
We managed to get in Tulo’s line and had about six people in front of us. Hunter got a batting practice ball signed (a dinged up MLB official ball), and I got my cheap World Series ball signed.
Tulo charges $25.00 for his autograph (then donates the money to charity), so I think it was cool that he was out there signing.
He was a class act.
<—Left is a picture of the ball he signed.
Thank you Tulo !!
That made the day worthwhile.
Go Rockies…D
